First Soyuz liftoff from the French Guiana

Description On the 21st October 2011, Soyuz lifted off successfully for the first time from Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana with the same configuration as for the Gaia launch in 2013. This time, it carried the first two Galileo In-Orbit Validation satellites.

In the foreground is the purpose-built mobile service gantry, which was moved back to its parked position one hour before Soyuz' liftoff.

More information can be found in the ESA Press Release.
