Alberto Krone-Martins is a PhD student working on a double diploma between Brazil (Universidade de São Paulo) and France (Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Bordeaux), under the direction of Christine Ducourant (Bordeaux) and Ramachrisna Teixeira (São Paulo).
Before starting on Gaia, he worked on Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays during a master under Gustavo Medina Tanco (UNAM, México) supervision. After finishing his master thesis, he received a scholarship from the European Union Alfa-II program to spend some months at the Universitat de Barcelona, where he started working on Gaia in the implementation of the JStuff unresolved galaxy catalogue simulation code.
Nowadays, he works on the analysis of the surroundings of Gaia targets (CU5) and of extended objects, such as compact galaxies (CU4). Also, as a part of his PhD, he collaborates with Caroline Soubiran (Bordeaux) in the study of methods for open cluster analysis based on the full space of kinematical and photometrical parameters.
Outside the academic world, even if his main hobby is amateur astronomy and outreach - where he is involved with some activities of the IYA2009 (as the Cosmic Diary) and the CASP (Clube de Astronomia de São Paulo) - he tries to keep a wide range of interests such as music composing, typography, diplomacy history, computing, arts. And from time to time he gets back to his roots and sits in his piano for a good old "play it Sam, play As time goes by".
